Stargazing with Mike Lynch

Fri., December 8th, 20236:00pm – 10:00pm

(9/21/23 Update)
After speaking with Mike Lynch, we understand tomorrow and Saturday nights’ weather will not be ideal for stargazing, and as wonderful and engaging a presenter Mike is, we want you to enjoy viewing the stars and planets during this event! We are following Mike’s lead, cancelling Stargazing for this weekend, and rescheduling to Friday, December 8 with Saturday, December 9 as a backup date.
While the reschedule date will certainly be colder, it provides a unique opportunity to view both Jupiter and Saturn as well as the great winter constellations on the rise! We’ll update our concessions with a warmer, winterier menu, set up fire rings throughout the parking lot, and prepare to be amazed by new sights.
We are sorry for the inconvenience of needing to reschedule, we’re grateful for Mike’s flexibility, and we’re committed to offering the best experience we can in a few months. Please email jbork@mocrc.org if you have any questions.

Friday, December 8 at 6pm
(Saturday if Friday needs to be cancelled due to weather)

Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Mount Olivet Conference and Retreat Center. We’ll have giant telescopes aimed at Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, galaxies, and more. Live video telescopes will also be available. Get to know constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse, and others. Great constellation mythological stories will also be featured!

Popcorn, hot chocolate, and bottled water are included. Concessions like wood-fired pizzas, candy, and soda will be available for purchase from 7-8pm. Some outdoor chairs will be available, but feel free to bring your own lawn chairs or blankets. This event is held with limited light so guests should be self-reliant.

$15 per person – includes program, snacks, and bottled water.
Children 3 and under are free. Max cost per family is $50.

Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO meteorologist and has been hosting Minnesota and Wisconsin Starwatch programs for over 50 years! He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.”
