SUMMARY:Writing Excuses
DESCRIPTION:Writing Excuses (Re)Generate Retreat: Unlock Your Creative Process \nSometimes maintaining momentum as a writer is hard. We all experience times of drought\, where the ideas won’t arrive and the words won’t flow. Or times where the busy nature of life simply blocks us from hitting our goals. \nIn either case\, the answer often isn’t to push harder. It’s to pause\, reset\, and carve out dedicated time where you can simply be creative. \nNext summer\, Writing Excuses Retreats invites you to nurture your creative process\, unlock inspiration and find companionship among fellow writers in our second (re)Generate Retreat. \nFor one week\, hosts Mary Robinette Kowal\, Erin Roberts\, and Sandra Tayler will guide you through a restorative retreat designed to help you ignite and nurture your creativity. The week will include interactive and collaborative workshops and classes balanced with plenty of free time to connect\, write\, brainstorm\, or simply stroll the grounds of the retreat center. \nListen to what our attendees have to say about last year’s retreat here. \n  \n*This is not an MOCRC event\, but because of its openness to the public and alignment with our mission\, we’re delighted to promote it here*

SUMMARY:Lenten Retreat (Restoration Ministries)
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the year\, many of us find ourselves falling into the same old patterns and ruts. We long for change\, but we feel stuck and discouraged.  We may think the circumstances around us need to change for us to get unstuck\, but often an inner change can help us find release and freedom. \n\nLent is a season in the Christian calendar when we give extra attention to what we may need to let go of in our lives. The act of letting go is meant to mirror Jesus’ passion\, crucifixion\, and ultimately resurrection. Join us this Lent as we pray with the “Welcoming Prayer\,” seeking to let go of patterns that keep us stuck and welcoming the love and presence of God’s healing action within. \nWelcoming Prayer \nWelcome\, welcome\, welcome.\nI welcome everything that comes to me today because I know it’s for my healing.\nI welcome all thoughts\, feelings\, emotions\, persons\, situations\, and conditions.\nI let go of my desire for power and control.\nI let go of my desire for affection\, esteem\, approval\, and pleasure.\nI let go of my desire for survival and security.\nI let go of my desire to change any situation\, condition\, person\, or myself.\nI open to the love and presence of God\, and God’s healing action within.\nAmen. \n\n*This not an MOCRC event but one we’re delighted to promote. SUMMARY:Women's Weekend 2025
DESCRIPTION:Women’s Weekend: Braiding Our Lives with Love\nJanuary 24-26\, 2025 \nJesus said\, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart\, and with all your soul\, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love is the center of our lives\, yet if we are honest it can be difficult to love others in the midst of polarizing discourse; it can be challenging to find time to connect with God meaningfully; and it’s easy to forget ourselves in the midst of our busyness and care for others. Together we will explore how to weave together these three strands of love without neglecting one for the other.  We will have opportunities to be renewed by spending time walking in the woods\, relaxing in the whirlpool\, scheduling a massage (extra cost)\, journaling and reading. Led by the women pastors of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church and Conference & Retreat Center Director Theresa Latini. \nThe retreat will begin with dinner on Friday and culminate with brunch on Sunday. Arrive on Friday afternoon and enjoy the pool\, whirlpool\, sauna and beautiful lounges and grounds at the Conference & Retreat Center. Register for single occupancy\, double occupancy\, dorm occupancy\, or as a commuter. The commuter rate includes meals and all presentations\, Friday evening through Sunday brunch. Double occupancy registrations require a roommate at the time of registration. Refunds for cancellations will be given up until January 14\, 2025. \nSingle occupancy: $395 (sold out)\nDouble occupancy: $275 (sold out)\nDorm occupancy: $220\nCommuter rate: $155 \nOnline registration is now open!

SUMMARY:Courage to Teach and Lead
DESCRIPTION:Courage to Teach and Lead\nAn Invitation to a Seasonal Retreat Series for Personal and Professional Renewal \nWithin the challenging climate of daily life and work\, we can struggle to keep sight of our goals\, and lose the passion that motivates and nourishes us along our path. We can lose our vision of purpose\, and feel hollow in the face of overwhelming circumstances. However\, through community and discourse we can renew our sense of self and vocation through reflection and conversation with those that face a similar struggle. As community leaders and service people\, we can renew ourselves to better serve those that need it most. Our renewed strength benefits us\, those we serve\, and the communities we share. \nBased on practices developed by Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage and Renewal\, this educational retreat is designed to provide participants with tools to deepen connection between self and vocation. Through a number of activities including\, poetry reading\, conversation\, journaling\, and self reflection\, participants are invited to join in community to realign and rediscover passion and joy within the workplace and in private life. \n*THIS IS NOT AN MOCRC EVENT\, BUT BECAUSE OF ITS OPENNESS TO THE PUBLIC AND OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LEADERS\, WE ARE PROMOTING IT HERE*

SUMMARY:Women's Wellbeing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Spring Cleaning: Decluttering Our Heads & Hearts \nSpring is about starting fresh\, starting over\, renewal\, new growth…and decluttering. With a small group of women who have a desire to learn\, are curious\, challenge themselves and have fun doing it\, we will explore your personal spring cleaning with a focus on decluttering our heads and hearts. Messages swirling with too many “to do’s’\, self-doubts\, “should/could”\, regrets\, hanging on when perhaps it is time to let go. Our internal clutter takes up a lot of head and heart space\, often creating more negative than positive energy within us\, and feeling stuck becomes the norm. \nThrough presentations\, facilitated discussions\, creative arts and time with Mother Nature\, you will learn how to edit those negative messages that nag within you\, gain new perspectives and strategies for self-care and keep internal clutter to a minimum moving forward. The combination of focused group activities and personal time for reflection\, relaxation and recreation result in a thoughtful\, fun and productive experience for all–spring forth with hopeful and positive energy! \nWomen’s Wellbeing Retreats include hotel-style single or double bedrooms\, each with private bathroom and shower\, six meals (special diets accommodated)\, facilitated program sessions each day/evening\, a block of free time to enjoy quiet space for yourself—time alone\, nap\, read\, journal\, crafts—whatever makes your heart sing! The wonderful amenities of Mount Olivet Conference & Retreat Center include a large indoor pool looking out to the woods\, hot tub\, sauna\, game room\, board games\, walking/hiking trails\, labyrinth\, floating marsh walkway overlooking the lake\, patio and an outdoor fireplace for gathering…s’mores anyone? \nMore information and registration at the link below. \n*This is not an MOCRC event\, but due to its openness to the public and our relationship with the leader\, we’re pleased to promote it here.

SUMMARY:Day Lenten Journey
DESCRIPTION:Spend a day at the Conference & Retreat Center or livestream from anywhere for our annual Day Lenten Journey. This retreat provides space to gather with familiar and new friends and enter the season of Lent together through worship\, learning\, conversation\, and connection with creation. \nBelonging: The Gospel of John as a Call to Discipleship \nUnique to the Gospel of John are the “I Am” statements of Jesus. From “I am the bread of life” to “I am the vine\,” each statement invites believers into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Jesus makes his first “I am” statement when talking with the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4:1-42). This provocative encounter shows us the potential and possibilities of our call to discipleship and sets the stage for understanding the other “I Am” statements in John’s Gospel. Join the Reverend Dr. Karoline Lewis\, and Retreat Center staff\, for an in-depth study of the implications of this text for our Lenten Journey this year. Worship will be led by Pastor Bill MacLean.   \n\n \nKaroline M. Lewis\, Ph.D. is the Marbury E. Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary\, St. Paul\, MN\, where she has taught since 2007. She is the author of multiple books\, including A Lay Preacher’s Guide: How to Craft a Faithful Sermon; Embody: Five Steps to Leading With Integrity; and John: Fortress Biblical Preaching Commentaries\, as well as numerous articles and book chapters. One of her newest books\, coming out soon\, is Belonging: Five Keys to Unlocking Your Potential as a Disciple.  \nOrdained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America\, Lewis is the program director for the Festival of Homiletics\, a contributing writer for Working Preacher\, and co-host of the site’s weekly podcast\, Sermon Brainwave.  She leads conferences\, workshops\, and retreats internationally on the Gospel of John\, the New Testament\, interpreting the Bible\, preaching\, leadership\, and women in ministry.  \nCost for those attending in-person is $20 (includes lunch and program). Cost for those attending virtually is $10 (includes link to livestream program). Bus transportation is available for $10 from West (8:30am)\, 7500 York (8:30am) and Mpls Campus (9am). To register for the bus\, choose your bus stop location (West\, 7500 York or Mpls Campus) in the Additional Items section of this registration.
